About

She was born in 1973 in Ankara. She graduated from the painting department of ZHKM High School. She interned for two years at Sümerbank and Ministry of Agriculture and Rural Affairs, working on carpet designs. During this internship, rare kilims and carpets from all over Turkey were collected and photographed. In these photographs, each motif and design was preserved with respect to its authenticity and redesigned using traditional drawing techniques. The aim of this process was to contribute to the preservation and transmission of cultural heritage. Güney worked during this process, and her works are now part of state archives.

Later, she gained technical drawing skills through her studies in interior architecture. Seeking a new field, Güney pursued education in fashion styling. At the end of her training, she participated in a fashion show with three of her designs. This education reinforced her interest in art and marked the first step toward her idea of working with silk in her future tezhip career. Inspired by the silk scrolls of the unconventional miniaturist Muhammed Siyah Kalem, the artist began creating classical tezhip works on pure silk. She then continued her academic journey with a degree in graphic design from Gazi University. In 1993, she received her diploma in tezhip by taking lessons from Ord. Prof. Dr. Süheyl Ünver’s student Bedia Altunbaş at the National Library of Ankara. In 1995, she held her first solo exhibition at IRCICA within the Yıldız Palace – Çit Kasrı. Before opening her second solo exhibition, she co-authored and published a book titled “Ottoman Decorative Arts” with K. Zeynep Doruker. In 1999, she submitted an article on “Silk Tezhip” for the Ottoman Encyclopedia prepared by Hasan Celal Güzel. With the approval of the academic committee, the article was included in the encyclopedia. In 2018, she was selected as one of the featured Turkish artists in the international book “Woman Developing Dimension in the Field of Islamic Artisanat”, published by IRCICA.
